Send us your quote. We'll beat it on price, warranty, or product. Same-day quotes and local parts, so no 6-week warranty delays.
Gates fail. Usually at the worst time. You’re leaving for work, or a wet season storm has just rolled in, and the gate won’t move. Standard gate systems often give out within 8 to 18 months in Darwin’s 35°C+ heat and monsoonal humidity. Then comes the runaround: a warranty claim, parts shipped from interstate, and a six-week wait.
Duntech works differently. Every motor is built for Territory conditions and tested through 10,000+ cycles before it reaches your gate. The design is simple on purpose, so there is less to go wrong and repairs stay affordable. Control boards cost $180-190, not $300-450, and local parts are stocked. If something does go wrong, we respond fast, not in weeks.
Not sure what your gate needs? Tell us about your property and we’ll recommend the right motor, solar or 240V, sliding or swing.

Why Darwin Gates Keep Failing
Darwin is brutal.
Heat bakes the electronics. Humidity gets into everything. Storms bring power surges, and lead-acid batteries often give up within two years up here. Add a motor that was never designed for any of it, and you get a gate that works for a while, then stops.
Some systems also pack two control boards into one motor, with a signal passing from one to the other before the gate moves. More parts means more to fail, and each board can cost $300-450 to replace. Signals drop out, the gate slows down, and you end up pressing the remote again and again in the rain.
Then the second problem starts. You call the supplier and get passed between people. A warranty claim turns into weeks of waiting for a part to arrive. Meanwhile you’re getting out of the car in a downpour to open your own gate.
You shouldn’t have to put up with that. And you shouldn’t have to learn how a gate motor works just to drive home.

Built For The Top End
Simple systems survive.
That’s the idea behind every Duntech motor. It presses a button, opens the gate, and closes it again. It does that in Darwin heat, through monsoon humidity, day after day.
Tested before it reaches you. Every motor runs 10,000+ cycles over two months before deployment. If it’s going to fail, it fails in testing, not on your driveway.
Made for 7-10 years of service. Standard systems can fail in 8-18 months here. Duntech systems are built to last years longer in the same conditions.
Affordable parts, held locally. Control boards cost $180-190, and parts are stocked in Darwin. Nothing gets shipped from interstate, and you’re not waiting six weeks for a repair.
Lithium power for solar setups. Lithium (LiFePO4) batteries handle Darwin heat far better than lead-acid, so solar gates stay reliable through the wet and the dry.
Add extras if you want them. Want Wi-Fi or Bluetooth? We can add both. The core stays simple, so if the extras ever have a problem, your gate still opens.

Life With A Gate Motor That Works
Picture the wet season.
Rain is coming down hard. You press the button, the gate opens, you drive through and stay dry. It closes behind you. You’re inside with the air conditioning on before the storm gets going.
No wondering whether it will work today. No standing in the rain with the remote. No surprise repair bill, and no six-week wait for a part.
That’s what a gate built for Darwin gives you. It just works.
Questions Darwin Owners Ask
How fast do I get a response?
Same day. If you send photos of your gate through the form, we can often quote straight away.
My gate motor is already failing. What should I do?
Call (08) 8945 3216. We’ll assess it and tell you honestly whether it’s worth repairing or time to replace.
Solar or 240V?
It depends on your property. Storms and power cuts are the main factor in Darwin. Tell us about your setup and we’ll recommend one.
What if something goes wrong after installation?
Call us. We respond fast, hold local parts, and fix it. There’s no warranty runaround.
Can I add Wi-Fi or a phone app?
Yes. We can add both. The core motor stays simple, so it keeps working even if the extras have an issue.
What is the best sliding gate operator?
We wish there was one, simple answer. The fact is that the best sliding gate opener for you will depend upon your location, cost, and expectation.
Different brands have different features, pros and cons. We stick with a couple of brands that we know well and that have respectable warranty. When you contact us, we’ll talk it through so we can suggest the one that does everything you want it to do and works for a long time, and there’s a pretty good chance that will be one of the Duntech Automation range of gate motors because they come with a good set of remotes, extra battery options, and smartphone apps.
Automatic gate opener reviews are worth reading but, for peace of mind, rest assured we’ve done that hard work for you over many years, which is why we supply what we believe is the best kit on the market.
Can I use my smartphone to open my remote control automatic gate operator?
You certainly can!
It’s a fantastic feature to have being able to operate your gate opener from anywhere in the world as long as you have wifi.
We prefer the wifi video intercom with electronic output to control an electric gate or roller door. This is because it makes ease of access brilliant, and secure.
It’s like having universal remote control that you can share with someone else to allow or disallow access. It’s a fantastic feature.
Plus, little extras include being able to turn courtesy lights on and off for when guests or family members need to come and go in the dark.
This unit can also run on full solar.
Are automatic gates limited to standard driveway sizes?
No, they’re not.
Dunwrights Doors & Gates can build you a new gate system to suit your entryway and install your preferred type of gate – single swing gate, double swing gates, or automatic sliding gates.
If you have a very wide opening, we’ll guide you to selecting our commercial grade powered electric sliding gate operators because they can handle gates up to 8 metres wide and sometimes more!
If you have a restricted area, we can supply and install some newly designed folding cantilever gates. Perfect for tight spaces.
Can existing solar and 240V automatic gates be repaired?
It all depends on the state of the current motors and the quality of the automatic gate system you have.
We’ll certainly assess the situation for you and will give you our expert opinion on whether it’s more economical to repair or replace you gate motor.
We’ve seen just about everything there is to see and will do our best to try to salvage what you have.
That said, if you’re reading this BEFORE your automatic gate motor has stopped working, we do recommend annual servicing to extend the life (and convenience) of your sliding gate opener or swing gate opener.
What are main reasons automatic gates can fail?
There are a few common problems we face often and most of these are due to lack of servicing, Darwin conditions, and/or choosing cheap gate motor to begin with.
We’ve been long time advocates of having surge protection on your electrical systems at home and work, and your automatic gate motors are no different. We do get power surges in Darwin, amid the tropical rain and lightning storms, so it’s really important to have that protection in place. When people haven’t done that, that’s when we get called in to do repairs.
Another problem is when the installer hasn’t taken the time to “teach” the gate how far it needs to move. This is called commissioning a gate opener. When it’s not been commissioned in the right way, it can lead to damage by pushing beyond the limits of its track or its swing distance.
Typically, gates with this problem might go really slowly at times, which is a protective mechanism to safeguard against damage.
Of course, getting the installation “done right” from the outset, can give you the peace of mind you need.
